Why You Should Test Your Commercials

In the advertising industry, creativity and precision are paramount—those few seconds of an audience’s attention are costly, and whether you’re with a brand or advertising agency, you want your ads to hit home. At the very least, you want to avoid potential PR disasters, which without testing, are sometimes caught too late after going live.

Testing spots (particularly the expensive ones) results in more effective advertising creative. With Animated Storyboards, you get the most premium digital draft of your creative concept. Build out and refine camera angles, characters, wardrobe, props, and sets all in 2D, 3D, or AI, then make sure a test audience confirms your idea really is great before making costly production decisions.

Animated Storyboards (ASB) is the world’s largest animatic company with studios around the globe. Our capability spans creating storyboards, animatics, and cinematics for TV commercials, films, games, and more. In this blog post, we’ll explore the benefits of testing concepts with Animated Storyboards to ensure successful creative productions.

After test spots are finished, they go to a testing agency, which is its own industry with a specific set of processes. Generally, these agencies coordinate test audiences to provide initial reactions and feedback on test commercials. Brands and agencies then decide, according to these test results, determining which concepts do or do not go into full production or if they need to be revised and re-tested.

Expensive media buys are only worth it with the right content. By testing concepts, you ensure your best ideas move forward, and when they do, test spots double serve as an accurate blueprint for flawless production and post-production. In addition, identifying and addressing potential issues during the animatic phase can save considerable time and money during physical production.

With ASB’s animatics and cinematics, brands and agencies can get the most accurate visualization of their commercials without the costs of experimentation on set and in real life. Testing your advertising creative, therefore, provides both audience insights and a visual map of your concept before going into production.

Testing Concepts with Animated Storyboards

Animated Storyboards is committed to helping brands and agencies reach excellence for every advertising broadcast production. With a deep understanding of creative advertising from 20+ years in the industry, our animation expertise ensures you receive the highest quality output.

Founded in 2001, Animated Storyboards goes beyond traditional boards, leading the animatics industry with our innovative 3D and AI cinematics. All broadcast production in advertising starts with boards, but basic storyboards can sometimes fall short of today’s complex ideas. With ASB’s animatics and cinematics, brands and agencies can map out their craziest concepts in 2D, 3D, or AI, testing an endless array of colors, camera angles, lighting, and so much more.

Global Footprint & Extensive Resources

With vast resources and a global pipeline, ASB can handle various projects faster and more efficiently than any other animatic company. ASB boasts a global presence with studios in New York City, Tel Aviv, and Bangkok and teams in Chicago, London, Sao Paolo, Singapore and Shanghai. Our extensive network allows for quick turnaround times without compromising on quality—we can deliver an animatic from brief to ship within just two weeks, depending on the creative. In addition, our global footprint gives clients the flexibility to use local VO talent from any of our offices for any language version, offering more authentic cultural adaptations.

Our work speaks for itself, and clients consistently praise our ability to deliver beyond expectations.

ASB Process & Production Timelines

Initial Consultation

Begin your collaboration with an initial consultation with one of our Marketing team members to discuss your project needs and timeline. This step ensures that Animated Storyboards understands your project’s needs to suggest the best visual style (2D, 3D or AI) and provide tailored solutions, which include Storyboards, Boardomatics, Animatics, and Cinematics.

For concepts that need that classic, hand-drawn look, choose an illustrator from our roster of 50+ artists to create 2D storyboards, aromatics, or animatics. If your creative has lots of motion and alt endings, our signature 3D process enables fluid character movement and dynamic camera angles to accommodate any number of scenes. And finally, get the same benefits and more with our AI style powered by our in-house AI tool, which generates ultra-realistic, legally risk-free elements for your most visually rich concepts.

Production

Once a format type is selected, every ASB project is assigned a marketing lead, producer, and director, who then work together to assemble the right artists, designers, animators, editors, and sound engineers for your creative work. We also offer full audio services, including but not limited to VO casting, recording, editing, mixing, sound design, stock music search and licensing that can be incorporated into your final video files.

During production, clients review our sketches, artwork, animation, and sound. With a production process refined over decades and teams worldwide, ASB swiftly handles feedback to ensure client satisfaction.

Delivery

Storyboards are delivered as stills or static files, while boardomatics are delivered as video files, as they’re essentially stills with pans, zooms, cuts, and sound applied. Animatics and cinematics are also delivered as video files as they include full animations and audio. Whether the final deliverables are put through Qualitative or Quantitative testing, ASB can match any delivery specifications for any testing facility.

Depending on the complexity of the creative, we can deliver boardomatics and premium 3D cinematics in as little as two weeks and 2D animatics in 2.5 weeks without overtime. We’re able to promise these timelines as ASB works globally as one company, with studios and offices that specialize in certain areas.

In New York City, we have the largest motion-capture studio on the US East Coast, where all of our 3D projects have motion recorded. Our Tel Aviv office handles particle animations, creating breathtakingly realistic elements like smoke, ice, and liquid chocolate. And in Bangkok, our main animation hub breathes life into our 2D, 3D, and AI models.
